Raise your hand if you picked Westhill to defeat Wilton on Saturday.

I see one, two, three, four, five… six… six hands raised. That’s out out of 64 people who cast a vote last week in the Week Five poll. Had I cast a vote before I closed the polls, it would have been six out of 65.

Westhill quarterback Adler Florian proved me wrong. Florian took over in the Vikings’ 31-21 win, completing nine of 19 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns. And on the ground, he ran the ball 14 times for 153 yards and two touchdowns.

The stats were similar to Wilton quarterback Vinny Cannon – he completed seven of 12 for 153 yards and ran the ball 19 times for 115 yards. But the big difference: Two interceptions, including one in the end zone int he fourth quarter, according to The Advocate.

The only negative came afterwards for the Vikings: the win doesn’t count in the FCIAC standings for whatever agreement was made by the league’s coaches and athletic directors. So Westhill is 3-2 overall and just 1-2 in the FCIAC.

What’s next for Westhill? The Vikings host Bridgeport Central in a winable game. Wilton on the other hand has a bigger challenge when it hosts undefeated Darien on Friday. But of course now that the FCIAC Week 5 Rule has come into play, they get another chance to stay unbeaten.
