Harding Snaps Losing Streak

The area’s longest losing streak has been snapped. After 19 straight losses, Harding defeated Bullard-Havens at Kennedy Stadium last night 32-14.

Two things to consider here: One is that Harding was drubbed by Fairfield Warde 43-0 just six days earlier. And due to poor field conditions at Bullard-Havens, its Week 10 game against Wright Tech/Stamford Academy was postponed and made up on Monday, giving the Tigers just two days to get healed up and ready for Harding.

But still, you’ve got to play the games. And Bullard-Havens did lose big to SWC Patriot Division champ Joel Barlow in its week one conference, so maybe the Tigers are what has been said about them the past two seasons: a good team in the Constitution State Conference.

And maybe last night, they were the more tired team.

Harding could have been the more distracted one, with its school in lockdown Tuesday because of random fights breaking out in the hallways and four students being sent to the hospital. So great job by Harding to stay focused.

  • No hating: Constructive criticism is fine (example: "I think the team should have punted on fourth down."). Being mean-spirited is not acceptable. If a player wins an award, don't disrespect the accomplishment. If a team wins, be gracious about the win and humble in defeat.

Harding did there thing last night. They played all four quarters. It has nothing to do with Bullard Havens only having two days of practice. Harding won fair and square. Also the llockdown on tuesday is nothing new to Harding High School so there was no type of distraction towards that. Just Give them thecredit for winnin and stop making excuss. Antqwan was faster then the corners, there O line got chewed up, Bullard Havens got a L. I usually would not say this but Bassick will Probably get a W against them next week. No Vocational school is going to beat the real schools if bridgeport.

  2. FCIACfootball Says:

And Cheney Tech is going to make the M playoffs from that conference. Something is seriously wrong with the state championship format.

    Here are Cheney’s victories
Wins Over: RHAM (MM-1w,0t), Capital Prep (S-2w,0t), SMSA (S-1w,0t), Wilcox Tech (SS-3w,0t), Wright Tech (S-1w,0t), Platt Tech (MM-4w,0t), Bullard Havens Tech (SS-5w,0t), Plainville (SS-1w,0t), Prince Tech (S-5w,0t)

So the team they have beat who has the best record is Bullard Havens who just lost to an FCIAC team with a 19 game losing streak.

Whoever finishes 5th in M has a very valid complaint.

  3. timparry Says:

Who is making excuses, cardej? Not me! I simply stated that both teams had distractions to deal with AND actually praised Harding for bouncing back against Warde. I doubt Harding is in lockdown every day, too.

Speaking of disrespecting the tech schools, FCIACfootball has a very valid point. Now strength of schedule is built into the playoff point system – you get 10 points for each win by a team you have beaten. And 10 points if you beat a team in a higher division.

It just seems like Class M is a little weak this season. Right now the co-op of St. Paul/Goodwin Tech/Lewis Mills is in the five spot and has even less opponent points than Cheney Tech.

    JOHNATHON BERRIOS Harding #6 QB/FS/LB/TE/DE .
    First comment from me.
what we did last night was what teams practice to do the entire season.
whether it’s for a day or for a week and a half. we came away with the win.
we PLAYED. We went into that game with a win attitude. We knew what we had to do and realized how hungry we were for that ” streak ” to come to an end.

I play FOOTBALL cause it’s what i love to do. i found something that i want to do for the rest of my life. It’s a way of life and how im going to live.

Now people can say what they want bout the game but they can’t say it was unfair. Tech had two days to practice for HARDING, well count the walk through before the game and that would give us one day of practice. The lock down kept us from practicing the days we needed to. So if your going to talk bout the facts we had less time to practice and still rocked harder then they did. We had more distraction and we had a-lot more then just another game on our minds. We went into that game thinking bout the WIN and we made our thought reality.

We played hard . JOHNATHON BERRIOS WENT HARD AT DEFENSIVE END , will was treating those kids like they were not suppose to suit up, anqwuan caught the damn ball, julis threw the ball, o-line lead by alvin and james blocked, timmy buzzed around the whole game lol, norwalk complained about getting the ball and d and rock shut the middle of the field down.

We just played hard and Won so talk about the positive’s .

    HARDING

    BLUE GOLD

  7. presidents center 73 Says:

  9. central4ever Says:

c’mon man, i appreciate your positivity but Central got Hardings heart a long time ago and now its just a continuence of whoopin after whoopin….I never thought I would say this, especially since Harding at one point owned Central, but Harding is not going to win this game for a long time, even if Bassick does join them next year so what…Cental IS BRIDGEPORT FOOTBALL!! Harding might as well not even show up….10 IN A ROW!!!! THIS RECORD WILL NEVER BE BEATEN!!! Harding your done, like always on Thanksgiving…Central 31 Harding 6

  10. bptcentral Says:

Excuse the comment above me…but this comes from a Bridgeport Central Football Linemen simply all I can say is we will do our best and that’s all I can say….Good Luck Harding see you Thanksgiving…

  11. central4ever Says:

excuse the comment above me…but “good luck harding????” are you serious??? do you really play for central??? or are you lying?? i mean c’mon, do you have any idea what this game is about?? save the sportsmanship after you’ve won, there is no room for it at this moment…seriously, do you have any idea what this game is about? I played in this game for 4 years buddy, and trust me when I tell you that there is no “good luck harding.” sorry bro, no disrespect but you need to do some serious research about this game or get your heart in the right place cuz “good luck harding” aint gonna do it, seriously, I am embarrassed that you really do play for central….I can’t believe you just said “good luck harding.” NO WAY, NOT IN MY DAY…guess you kids have been spoiled by this winning streak. trust me, Harding is going to bring it to you on Thursday, then tell me if its still “good luck harding.”

  12. timparry Says:

Um, central4ever, sounds like your teammate (bptcentral) understands what sportsmanship is all about. You don’t seem to. Respect your opponents, there’s no need to hate them.

  13. central4ever Says:

i don’t mean to disrespect your website, i love it!! I know how it sounds, I guess what I want to say, and what i did say was, save the sportsmanship for later, no need to get all gooey right now because there is no room for it, they’ll take it for a weakness….listen, you can play a good clean game, i totally promote that, but there is no need to tell your foe “we’ll do our best good luck.” just don’t say anything, especially to a rival that wants to bash your head in come thursday…

  14. presidents football 71 Says:

CENTRAL CENTRAL okay here comes #71 going though the central o-line with #6 and #32… to easy

  15. bptcentral Says:

I know about the history of this Central-Harding Game.. but first off you can’t be cocky about anything you need to work hard and practice before you do all the talking. You need to be quiet work your butt off in practice and dont take your opponent as a joke. Focus and Discipline Comes First! If you play or have played for Central you should be ashamed. All that Coach Cadelina has preached to us is being a Student Athlete Gentleman. Right now with your comments your making our program look like a joke. Now quit making excuses and no one is being soft about this game this game is very serious to us at Central and if you don’t believe you better…Central is practicing hard and again GOOD LUCK TO HARDING! See Ya Thursday In The MUD…

  16. centralpride Says:

  17. castij7 Says:

bptcentral,i agree with what you say. I know Cadelina and I know what your coaches preach to you guys. I know you probably know about the game, but I don’t know what year you are in and really it doesn’t matter. You never played when I did and I never got a chance to beat Harding. This game is a family tradition. It was an honor to have played in it. This game has been going since 1926!!! My father played for Harding, and my brother and I have played for Central. I KNOW what it feels like to be down and Harding never let up. They gave us cheap shot after cheap shot, shoved our faces into the ground, talked smack even when they were beating us, and throw bombs down field in the last quarter even when they were beating us to bump the score up 43-8. 3 years ago when the game was last at Hedges I recall the Harding assistant coach ripping the Central flag from one of the Central freshman and shoving him to the ground for refusing to let go of the flag. Good luck?!? This is not a team that is going to wish you any luck. REspect your opponent yes. Definitely. But be ready. As a matter of fact, beware. This game is more than just a game. It will forever live in your memory and theirs. YOu won’t ever walk the streets of Bridgeport without some friend or acquaintance from your rival school talking smack about how they let you have it. I know we have got the edge because of 9 years in a row, but that means nothing…nothing at all come 10 a.m. tomorrow. Put your war gear on and don’t ever think that those guys over there are going to give you a hand when you hit the floor. They will stand right over you and curse you out. This game unleashes the beast in all who have played in it. There’s no room for “Good luck”. Sportsmanship is for other rivalries. I’m done.

  18. castij7 Says:

I wish you Central luck, pride, & glory.
