OK, not everyone did spring football. The News-Times explains why, and runs down which teams from that area did what.
Greenwich Post covered the Cardinals Red-White game. Rob Adams was telling me Sunday that the game got so competitive that down the stretch, the 2-minute drill wasn’t doable.
In contrast, I was at New Canaan’s Red-White game, and it went to overtime, allowing both teams to work on the Kansas tie-breaker. Interesting note here: Senior co-captain Willie Ouelette is slated to be the next starting QB, but there’s really no dropoff. Junior transfer Joe Isabelle and sophomore Matt Milano were equally impressive running the spread offense – Milano may have the edge after a game-tying 2-minute drill.

New Canaan’s Red-White Game was an interesting showcase – many of the top skill players were out (lacrosse), so a lot of the younger talent got worked in.
An interesting note on the rising sophomore class at New Canaan: since 4th grade, the “group” has just one real loss – a 1 point heartbreaker to Norwalk in freshman football. Greenwich does not participate in the FCFL (Westport, Wilton, Darien and Fairfield), so there’s no basis for comparison there, but that sort of streak – 60-1 from 4th to 9th grades – is fairly impressive.
Youth records and performance should always be taken with a grain of salt (especially in a sport like football), but Marinelli has some serious talent in the pipeline.
