No Official Word on Wright Tech-Stamford Academy Football
August 9, 2009 in Stamford by timparry

The State of Connecticut “suspended operations” at Wright Tech this week as part of an effort to cut an $8.55 billion budget deficit.
No word yet on whether Stamford Academy, which was in a co-op agreement with Wright Tech in a few sports including football, will be able to support a football program on its own. Or for that matter, no word if there’s another school out there that could partner with Stamford Academy so the program could live for the 2009 season.
If not, there will be a gap in the Constitution State Conference schedules. Wright Tech-Stamford Academy’s opponents could scramble to find someone to play in its new bye weeks, but there may not be a lot of schools out there hoping to round out their schedules.
According to the CIAC’s recently-updated transfer rule, it appears Wright Tech students can attend their home school districts and not have to sit out 30 days before playing in a game.
So as an example, if a student-athlete from the East End of Bridgeport could immediately play for Harding. But if I’m reading the rule correctly, the same student-athlete would not be able to play for Bullard-Havens Tech unless serving a 30-day transfer suspension.
Of course, players could petition the CIAC to waive the transfer rule, especially under a hardship like this.
