Pacilio Injured in Staples Win
October 25, 2009 in FCIAC Central, Harding, Staples by timparry
What’s the worst that can happen when you’re undefeated and playing a team you should beat on a muddy field? You could lose a key player for the rest of the season because of an injury. And that may have happened yesterday to Staples in its 40-0 win at Harding yesterday.
Staples quarterback Brandon Pacilio may have suffered a season-ending broken ankle injury during the second quarter of the game, according to The Advocate. Or it may just be an ankle sprain, according to The Hour.
Either way, it appears the spotlight is now on senior backup quarterback Keith Gelman, who has seen mop up duty for the Wreckers in several games this season and has been a force on special teams. It appears Gelman will make his first career start Friday at surging Ludlowe, which has won its last three games.
Gelman was 2-for-4 passing for 16 yards and ran the ball four times for 28 yards and a touchdown yesterday.
Pacilio is a team captain and a second-year starter at quarterback. So even though his season stats to date may not shine like quarterbacks in pass-first offenses, he’s still the cog that makes the Wreckers go.
But fortunately for Gelman, Staples can also win games with a solid run and a brick wall defense that has surrendered just 19 points on the season.
That could also be bad news for Staples, which will most-likely move up to Number Two in all the major polls this week. That’s because Ludlowe does a pretty good job stopping the run.

First of all, sounds like a bitter Warde fan who lost to Ludlowe last year. Secondly, I would say Ludlowe does run more than they pass. You are so astute. Of the last 3 wins for Ludlowe, their QB has accounted for 7 of their 9 touchdowns ( according to the CT Post )… 3 of those were passing. Staples, by the way is also run dominant . But, I guess being 6-0 and not passing much means you aren’t good?
Ok, not to be your typical warde fan, but ludlowe has always been run dominant. And when they do pass, Ferarra is by far not the best in the league. Not that im saying its not better for the falcons to have him back, but i wouldn’t say the wins are a result of having your QB back. Ludlowe won the games they are expected to win, Of the three games they won, they have a combined record of 4-14. Their wins also comming from losing record teams. With respect however to ludlowe, They did play staples tough in a nail biting game last season. But staples is a completely differant team then last years squad. I think it will be close for the first half and staples will pull away in the third and fourth quarters.
That’s unfortunate for their QB. I hope he is okay. Bottom line, though, is that this is the game of football. Same thing happened to Ludlowe. Their 3rd year starting QB was out for the first 3 games and their starting middle linebacker and fullback was out the first 4. You might wonder what their record would be with those players uninjured. This sets up a REALLY interesting scenario on Friday night. It could be arguably the game of the year for the two teams who are rivals with one another already.
